The Villa of Corniolo

The villa-farm, property of the Minerbettis right from the sixteenth century, passed by marriage to the Torrigianis, princes of Scilla in the middle of the last century. It was they who commissioned the decoration, which probably extended to various environments, to Dario Chini.

Today a complex heraldic figuration which commemorates the various members of the Minerbetti family who lived in the XIV – XV centuries and their enterprises, next to the coats of arms of the new owners. Bands and polychromatic geometrical and vegetable motifs run along all the architectural frameworks of the environment, also extending to the wood of the door.

In a lobed diamond low down on the right wall the signature of the author, together with the date 1889, is just legible. The paintings of the Villa of Corniolo offer an example of the style which was defined “fifteenth-century” and are comparable to those, again carried out by Dario Chini together with his  brother  Leto,  in  the  Villa  of  Cafaggiolo  near  Barberino  di  Mugello (1886 - 1887).
